There is a technology called SawStop, which could save your fingers when involved in careless or accidental woodworking mishaps. Read about it here.

Check out the "Hot Dog Demo!" :^)

My Dad can only count to 9 1/2, something like this would have been a good thing(tm).

That is seriously cool. Nothing substitutes for general alertness, of course, but this is seriously cool, nonetheless. I hope the manufacturer makes a good profit on it!

There is a major problem with its acceptance by the tool industry.

"Big Tools" would rather have the onus on us for our mistakes. Now that we can say, "That shouldn't have happened!" They don't want to hear it, license the solution, pay for anything - at least according to the author of the article. :^)

Wow! This saw is AMAZING! I would get one except I have never used one before. I've used hand held ones tho. Maybe now is the time:o)

Actually, the tool industry is probably afraid of what happens when some idiot trusts the gadget instead of using his head, and the gadget malfunctions. My industry uses very similar tools all the time, and we're replacing them constantly. Thankfully, the cost of failure is yield hits, not lost fingers.

This replacement/failure rate will probably only increase as manufacturers comply with the EU's ill-conceived "ROHS" lead initiative--which will tend to lead to unwanted shorts across unencapsulated PCBAs.

In short, it's not a home run that everyone should go to this.

Ya know, I think I have become a regular of Day By Day now. Hope Bike Bubba doesn't think I'm weird like you.

You're assuming, Mercy Now, that I think "weird" is derogatory. :^)

Well, I've been told that I'm special before. I hope they didn't mean like so special to ride the short bus.

They have busses for school children, but I didn't know it was because of their height. Hmmm...

But, Mercy, you'd be the last to know, wouldn't you? :^)

Busses for school children will get you put in jail, Mark, unless they're your own. "buss"; a gentle kiss. "Buses."

:^)

My favorite abuse of that word is when people "buss" tables. Ewwwww!!!

Bubba, according to m-w.com, it can be spelt either way. I'll take yours, though - 'tis shorter.

(Are you telling me that your tables aren't clean enough to eat off or buss?)

BTW, "clearing a table" is also a definition of "bus" according to Merriam-Webster.
