Another silly interpretation of Mohammed's writings:

Temporary marriages. (They may even be a proper interpretation of the "Prophet"'s writings.)

They can last from an hour to 99 years. To discourage prostitution and extra-marital sex.

Hmmm...

Not buying it.

One would figure that some smart guy might figure out that it IS prostitution, but I guess I'm dreaming here...

Well, frankly, I'd hope that the smart guys wouldn't figure out that it's very much like prostitution, because that might lead to a lot more of it. ;^)

It benefits widows, though!

It keeps the young from doing what their hormones lead them (inexorably) to without the approval of the clergy or an official of some sort.

It could save on hotel room expenses during weekend trysts!

It's good for the economy!

It follows the tenets of their religion. It doesn't encourage rape. If, they're going to Hell anyway, isn't this more civilized?

If they're on the Highway to Hell, I'd actually prefer them to become brilliantly aware of their sin.
