Bike Bubba! Your common sense might be putting you in danger!

In order to be safest whilst riding your bike, I conclude from reading an article on new research in the UK, you should have a long-haired wig over your helmet and ride, to a small degree, somewhat erratically.

Very interesting. The reason buses and big trucks pass much closer to the cyclist is that they have less room to move out of the way w/o crossing into the other lane.

That may be part of it, but it might also be their business-like attitude. Things that don't get/stay out of the way get crushed!

Ah, I got the solution. Put a wig over the helmet but then your head would look really big.

Yep, that's what I meant. :^)

And, with the speeding that is prevalent on the streets today, the size of the head might be missed whilst it still drew attention and enhances the chances that you're thought to be femmish.

Oh yeah, duh. I was reading the article that I forgot to finish reading your post.

I wonder if part of the issue is that bicyclists tend to take a few more risks when their brain bucket is on. Put gently, I have NEVER been hit by a car while bicycling, so there must be something going on for this particular professor to have been hit TWICE in the course of a single study.

Dain Bramage maybe?

I don't think that his study could show exactly who was getting too close to whom...

He is a professor and British, so I'll grant that you're probably a more sensible bicyclist, Bubba.
